Trident Academy held its annual homecoming celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in front of a packed gymnasium. Students, families, alumni and faculty cheered loud for the homecoming court and throughout the middle school and varsity basketball games.
“The enthusiasm of the contestants and escorts was contagious,” Lael Byrd, homecoming coordinator, said.
Senior Padgett Skardon was crowned this year’s Homecoming Queen. Skardon is the daughter of Capt. Taylor and Nancy Skardon of Charleston. She was escorted by senior Ian Hueston.
She was crowned by last year’s homecoming queen, Ally Egan.
The first member of the Queen’s Court was freshman Kennedy McGinnis. McGinnis is the daughter of Sonja McTeer of Charleston and Darrell McGinnis of James Island. She was escorted by Darrell Wright.
The second member of the Queen’s Court was senior Mattea Weinberg. Weinberg is the daughter of Larry and Norma Weinberg of Mount Pleasant. She was escorted by senior Lucas Bybee.
The third member of the Queen’s Court was senior Cynthia Hundley. Hundley is the daughter of Walter and Cindi Hundley of Charleston. She was escorted by senior Luke Jeresaty.
Following the crowning, the Trident Academy varsity basketball team played against James Island Christian. The team lost a hard played game, 33-59.
“Although the end of an era caused a few tears,” Byrd said, “the smiles throughout the night for both the homecoming contestants and the basketball team made it for a wonderful evening had by all.”
