  • The board of the Mount Pleasant Land Conservance had a good time at last year’s Race & Roast.

The second annual Race & Roast at Oakland Plantation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24 and benefits the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy. The MPLC has protected more than 220 acres of undeveloped land in and around Mount Pleasant, helping to preserve the natural resources that contribute to our quality of life and sense of place.

The event is held at Oakland Plantation, one of the properties the MPLC has protected. This rarely-seen site features an avenue of oaks and several miles of winding trails through more than 130 acres of preserved woodland.

There will be a 5K Trail Run through the property that starts at 12:30 p.m. The race terminates at the Oyster Roast, featuring local oysters, chili and hot dogs. All adult participants receive a signature event pint glass and unlimited wine, Palmetto beer, sodas, and water.

The admission charge for 5K & Oyster Roast is $50, Oyster Roast is $35; Kids 12 and under are free. Live music provided by “Hit or Miss” (Joel and Ward from Sol Driven

Train). This family-friendly event will include kids’ activities such as an inflatable slide, facepainting, and wagon rides.
