Loney Garrett PROVIDED

Members of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office found 45 malnourished dogs and bones of hundreds of deceased dogs near Goose Creek Monday.
After receiving numerous complaints, officers served a search warrant on a residence off Howe Hall Road, BCSO spokesperson Dan Moon said.
Loney Garrett was arrested Monday around midday and taken to the detention center. He is expected to be charged with animal cruelty and neglect, although a full list of charges was not available Monday evening, Moon said.
“We found the dead animals everywhere,” Moon said. “Bones everywhere…Well over 200 dead dogs. That could've occurred over a few years or a few months. Probably at least over a year.”
The living animals are in poor condition and were taken to a local SPCA to be treated by veterinarians, Moon said, adding that he does not know if the living dogs will make it.
The dead dog bones were found behind the suspect's property where they were lying out in the open without being buried, according to Moon.
“This is a substantial case. That's a lot of dead animals.”
There had been some complaints from animal control and an animal rescue organization but the complains increased dramatically recently, according to Moon.
“Gruesome day. I haven't seen anything like that in my life. Filthy, sloppy…Bones everywhere just laying on the ground. Nothing was buried.”
Garrett is expected to appear at a bond hearing Tuesday evening.
