The second annual Push Up & Up Challenge has begun team recruitment for the 2013 event which will be held on Saturday, April 13 in Marion Square in downtown Charleston. Push Up & Up is a fun, family-friendly event benefiting proven dropout prevention programs, and has partnered in the Lowcountry with Communities in Schools (CIS) of the Charleston Area. Last year’s Push Up & Up Challenge raised more than $40,000.
Communities In Schools (CIS) of the Charleston Area is a nonprofit whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS has a 96 percent success rate and has benefitted over 10,000 students.
On April 13 from 9 a.m. to noon, teams of six will represent the Tri-county community in competing to complete as many push-ups as possible in 30 minutes. Push Up & Up is an opportunity for local businesses and the Charleston people to join in supporting dropout prevention. There will be vendors, prizes and a DJ playing hit music.
Push Up & Up features three divisions: Competitive Division, Open Division and School Division. The school division will compete for 20 minutes and includes middle and high school students from any of the public and private schools in the Tri-County area. The event is perfect for corporate wellness initiatives and team building as well.
Teams are representatives of the local community. Health and wellness workers, gyms/trainers and member, firefighters, teachers, students, corporations and families can all participate to raise money for dropout prevention.
