Parents Anonymous of South Carolina recently received a grant from Berkeley Electric Trust. The grant will fund peer support groups for parents and caregivers, specifically foster parents and grandparents, in Berkeley County for the entire year.

Executive Director Troy Strother states, “This grant comes to us at a perfect time because we have been seeing an increase in requests for support groups in the Berkeley County area. With this sizeable grant, we will be able to provide the services and resources needed to the parents and caregivers in convenient locations across the county.”

Parent and caregiver support groups meet weekly in locations such as churches, schools, and community centers to provide a stigma free environment for parents to share any challenges they may be facing at home. Trained group facilitators lead the meetings along with a ‘Parent Leader’ to encourage dialogue and support among the group members. Group facilitators are identified as individuals who know their community well and want to help make it stronger by empowering families. They can be social workers, staff members of schools, psychologists, or church leaders. If interested in becoming a trained group facilitator please contact Parents Anonymous of South Carolina at 843-747-0480.

Parents Anonymous of South Carolina, founded in 1978, is a private nonprofit organization that works to stop and prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening families through utilizing a network of evidence based programs and practices.
