Sullivan’s Island mayor Carl Smith will not seek another term in office in the upcoming election.
“Though I have no doubt that could win a third term, there are many reasons for my decision not to run again, and I will make them known in the future,” Smith said in a statement to the Moultrie News.
“For now, I will just say that I hope a good, qualified candidate who has the island and its employees’ interest as a priority will step forward to run for mayor.”
Current mayor pro tem Mike Perkis announced about two weeks ago that he plans to run for mayor in the May 7 election.
