Alzheimer's support groups continue
The local Alzheimer's Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are the Goose Creek library (5:30-6:30 p.m.) on Old Moncks Corner Road, Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

LFD barbecue Saturday
The Lebanon Fire Department is sponsoring its annual barbecue on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the Lebanon Community Center located at 1188 Lebanon Road in the Lebanon Community.
Plates are $7 each (eat-in or carryout).
DayLily Club meets Jan. 27
The Lowcountry DayLily Club will hold its monthly meeting at Berkeley Electric Co-Op, 551 Rembert Dennis Blvd. in Moncks Corner, at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.
Jim and Peggy Jeffcoat of Singing Oaks Gardens will present the program. Both Jim and Peggy are daylily hybridizers, so this should be an interesting program. Refreshments are provided.

Free concert Feb. 9
A free concert by the Woodwind Quintet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 in the Berkeley High School Auditorium.
This event is a gift to the public from the Town of Moncks Corner and the Recreation Department. Please come and enjoy a quiet evening with good music, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Democratic fundraising breakfast Saturday
The Berkeley County Democratic Party will have a fundraising pancake breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Applebee's Restaurant on Rembert Dennis Blvd in Moncks Corner from 9 to 11 a.m. Plans for 2013 will be discussed.

Democratic Women meet Feb. 2
Berkeley County Democratic Women will have an organizational luncheon at Gilligan's on St. James Avenue in Goose Creek on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Susan Smith, president of the South Carolina Democratic Women's Council, will speak. Lunch is by reservation only. Cost will be $12 per person.

Hiking, biking, paddling volunteer training set
Palmetto Conservation will offer training for volunteers to lead outdoor hiking, biking and paddle trips in the local area at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

Bank grand opening Jan. 24
First Citizens will hold a grand opening event to celebrate the opening of the bank's new 6,500-square foot branch in Moncks Corner on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at 212 East Main St.
Bank and town officials will take part in the event, which will highlight the new building that features enhanced digital merchandising and a convenient image deposit ATM.
The branch is located at the same address as the former Moncks Corner branch, which was demolished in July to prepare for construction of the new edifice. First Citizens previously was serving customers from a temporary modular unit located behind the site of the new branch, which opened on Dec. 17.

Tax aid sessions announced
AARP Tax Aid sessions have been scheduled at the Berkeley County Library Goose Creek and Farmers and Merchant Bank in Moncks Corner (221 East Main Street), on Monday and Thursday from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment at Farmer's and Merchant. Vocalist to appear at First Baptist of St. Stephen
Local renowned vocalist Peggy Sineath will be the featured guest on Sunday morning, Jan. 20, at the First Baptist Church of St. Stephen.
Sineath, a resident of Hanahan, is well known throughout the state for her Christian music and testimony. She has opened The Citadel sports events many times with her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," and has sung in numerous churches throughout the state.
The First Baptist Church of St. Stephen is located at 126 Hood Street, near the Town Hall. The Morning Service begins at 11 a.m., and is open to all. Dr. David Brien is the Interim Pastor.
Free computer classes at TTC
The Public Computer Center at Trident Technical College's Berkeley Campus is offering the following computer courses to the public, free of charge.

All course participants will need to bring a USB flash drive to save their work.

Health Fair set for Lowcountry
Charleston's premier healthcare providers and wellness based businesses have joined forces to create the Fifth Annual Total Health Fair on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 20 from Noon to 4 p.m.
The event will take place at the Omar Shrine Convention Center on Patriots Point Road in Mt. Pleasant.
The health and wellness expo for the Charleston area is a free event that will increase awareness of all forms of healthcare and healthy living opportunities that are available to all residents of the Lowcountry.
Over 80 healthy living businesses and several area non-profit organizations whose common goal is to make the Lowcountry healthier, according to a release from the event. Educational lectures, demonstrations, and activities for all ages will be ongoing throughout the weekend.
Biggest Loser contestant Antoine Dove is scheduled to make an appearance.
The first 200 attendees on Saturday and the first 200 attendees on Sunday will receive free goodie bags at the door.
