Cruce critic responds

  • Monday, January 14, 2013

Dear Editor:
This is a response to the recent letter from Mr. Lewis concerning my letter about (Jeff) Cruce dissatisfaction.
Hanahan has never won a football championship. I know Cruce's Hanahan football record was in a very easy region with an influx of players from Cainhoy High School after it closed.
The former coach from Berkeley left due to his health, not what players were coming back.
You are certainly a friend of Coach Cruce from his Hanahan days, and I can appreciate that. I think that Coach Cruce cares about his players, too. I have never sent a play to Cruce or wanted to call his plays. I simply stated my thoughts from 48 years of Berkeley Stags football with no real response from the coach unless I sent him a donation of money for trips, etc.
Comparing Hanahan to Berkeley in football is like apples and oranges. Hanahan has always been a baseball school and not a football power.
I just want to say I am and have always been open to the coach but he does not like my thoughts, so be it. †I too await next year with great excitement and hope.
My last thought is, your former coach set the bar for the team by stating in the newspaper to judge him on 2012, not 2011. I simply did that and frankly he didnít reach expectations whether it was players or coaching. I personally think 2013 is the year, great improvements need to be accomplished or a change is needed.
