They don’t call this the Battle of Lake Moultrie for nothing.
The Timberland Lady Wolves and the Cross Lady Trojans mixed it up for 32 minutes with Timberland holding on to win 37-31 despite a late Cross comeback Friday night.
For much of the first half the game belonged to the Lady Wolves, who jumped out to a 23-9 first half lead before the Lady Trojans began to rally with a 22-8 second half run to pull within one following Shanyra Lisbon’s three-pointer with 4:59 remaining in the game.
Cross failed to score another point over the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. The Lady Trojans fell to 0-4 on the young season.
“We’re getting better each game,” said second year coach Calvin Davis. “We have a long way to go but these girls are working hard. We’re getting there.”
Timberland’s Tori Ismael would can a pair of free throws to put the Lady Wolves up 34-31 and Dominique Hamilton would add a late put back to close out the scoring.
Hamilton led all scorers with 16 points as THS notched its first win of the 2012 season.
Lisbon led the Lady Trojans with 10 points and Marchaeya Gilliard chipped in four. These two teams tip it off again on Saturday at Timberland.
