Six Lowcountry grapplers ranked No. 1
The first official rankings for wrestling teams and individuals have been unveiled by SCMAT.com and the Lowcountry is well represented.
In Class AAAA, Summerville is ranked No. 3, while Wando and Fort Dorchester round out the Top 10 ranking ninth and 10th respectively. Ashley Ridge is 13th, followed immediately by Stratford and Cane Bay.
Lexington and Rock Hill are the top two teams in the classification.
Summerville has a pair of wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their weight class, Gavin Perkins (126) and Chad Wood (152).
So does Stratford.
Senior Nick Young is atop the 132-pound class while Noah Shuler is ranked highest at 182 pounds.
In all, 16 Class AAAA wrestlers from the Lowcountry are ranked inside the top 5 of their class.
Ashley Ridge’s Zack Armstrong is second at 170 pounds.
Grapplers ranked third in their class are Summerville’s James Sass (106), Wando’s Dakota Dahabi (120), Ashley Ridge’s Christian Cuttino (132), Fort Dorchester’s Daquan Bushka (138), Fort Dorchester’s Joseph Hutchinson (170) and Wando’s John Elwood (220).
Cane Bay’s highest ranked wrestler, sophomore Matt Rudy, comes in at No. 4 at 182 pounds. Ashley Ridge’s Ben Whitney (106) is also ranked fourth.
Stratford’s Billy Ackerman is ranked fifth at 120 pounds. Wando’s Darren Scott (106) and Ashley Ridge’s Joseph Pringle (182) also have a No. 5 ranking.
Other wrestlers receiving a Top 10 ranking include Summerville’s Tyler Fachko (120) and Adam Blocker (195), Fort Dorchester’s Dallas Brown (132) and Austin Ziliak (152), Ashley Ridge’s Terrell Robinson (138) and Cane Bay’s Albert Ednilao (106).
In Class AAA, Hanahan is ranked No. 3 behind Upstate schools Eastside and Emerald.
Two Hanahan seniors are atop their weight classes.
Missouri signee J.J Johnson is No. 1 at 132 pounds, while Newberry commitment Dennis Flores is the top wrestler in the 170 pound class. Sophomore teammate Jacob Garibay is ranked third at 220 pounds.
In Class AA-A, Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Cheraw are the top two teams, followed by Aynor, Edisto and Chesnee.
Military Magnet’s Ivan Wiggans (132) is the highest ranked local wrestler in that classification. He is ranked second.
