Ferol and W. Henry Lovelady of Goose Creek celebrated their 50th anniversary on Dec. 16.
The Loveladys were married on Dec. 16, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in San Diego, California. Dr. Pieter Smit performed the ceremony.
Joyce Martin Fowler, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor and the Rev. Walter Lovelady, father of the groom, served as best man.
The Loveladys have three children living in the tricounty area. They are Kay Leigh (husband Frank) of Daniel Island, David Lovelady (wife Crystal) of Goose Creek and Rachel Lovelady of Goose Creek. Selena, Micah, Savannah, Tori, Brooke and Haley are their six grandchildren.
The Loveladys have lived in Ladson and Goose Creek for the past 32 years. Mrs. Lovelady taught school for 35 years. The last 20 years of that time was at College Park Middle School. She retired from the Berkeley County School District in 2001.
Dr. Lovelady served as a pastor in Arkansas before coming to South Carolina as a Navy Chaplain. He was stationed at the Weapon’s Station on the USS Canopus and at the Weapon’s Station Chapel. He retired from the Navy in 1998 and as a probation officer from the Charleston County Probation, Parole and Pardon Services in 2001.
Staying active in the community is important to the Loveladys. They are members of several professional organizations and the local Charleston Lowcountry Rose Society and the Lowcountry Daylily Club. They are also members of the Deer Park Baptist Church Celebration Choir and will be singing in the Singing Christmas Tree from Dec. 14-17. They will be “in the tree” on their 50th anniversary.
In the summer of 2013 they plan to take a celebration trip to Alaska.
