School supply drive under way
The youth of St. Philip Catholic Community is sponsoring a back-to-school supply drive to provide supplies to those in need of assistance, specifically book bags. Items will be collected from July 21 until Aug. 12. Book bags and supplies will be distributed starting Aug. 15, so that students can have them when they report to class on the first day of school. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call the church office at (843) 761-3777; 771-5740 or 771-7643, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please know that all inquiries will be kept confidential. Items recommended are: book bags (smaller, lightweight bags for elementary school students and larger, more durable ones for older students), pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils, markers, glue or glue sticks, paper clips, round-tip scissors, rulers, hand sanitizer, graph paper, marble notebooks, composition books, mechanical pencils, index cards, book covers and notebook paper.
Rite of Adoption
The Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Rite of Adoption for the State of South Carolina and Jurisdiction conducted its 103rd Annual Session July 16 – 18 at the Masonic Temple in Columbia. The District 2 Queen, Tonya Dickerson of Community 382 of Huger won first place at the Annual Session and will represent the state’s Prince Hall Rite of Adoption for the State of South Carolina for the 2012 - 13 activity year. Sister Juanita D. Edwards serves as Grand Worthy Matron. Brother Herman L. Rivers, 33 degree, Grand Worthy Patron; and the Honorable Curtis Mansel Sr., 33 degree, serve as the Most Worshipful Grand Master. Sister Ella McGee serves as Grand Supervising Deputy for District No. 2 Order of the Eastern Star Rite of Adoption for the State of South Carolina and Jurisdictions, and Brother Michael Alston, 32 degree, serves as the Worthy Patron.
Knights of Columbus
Congratulations to the new officers of the Knights of Columbus Council 11471, Our Lady of the Lake, Moncks Corner, (Dist. 13): Grand Knight Charles E. Spiegelmire III; Deputy Grand Knight Chad McGowan; Chancellor Norman Moraus; and Warden Tom Gasparich.
Expressions of sympathy are being sent to the family of Cora A. Ravenell of the passing of a brother, son, uncle, husband, cousin and friend; and to John and Sylvia Brown on the passing of a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend.
