Crime in the County
The following incidents were obtained from Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports:
• A Summerville man is attempting to find out how his utility trailer that he let some friends borrow wound up with a For Sale sign on it near a Farrell Street residence in Moncks Corner.
His friends whom he let borrow the trailer called the victim to tell him that the trailer was sitting on the side of the road. There was a first name and telephone number written on the sale sign. The victim said he used the trailer in June and left it sitting in the front yard. The victim woke up the next morning and noticed the trailer was gone but didn’t report it as stolen because he thought his friends had borrowed it, which they had consent to do.
A deputy knocked on the door of the Farrell Street address but no one answered. The victim didn’t immediately get his trailer returned because he could not provide any ownership documents to the deputy.
• A Bonneau woman arrived at a Barn Drive residence in order to clean a saltwater tank for the owner when she was assaulted. A resident confronted the victim about stolen money. The resident jumped onto the front porch and hit the victim on the left side of her head with an open hand in an attempt to knock her from the porch.
The suspect fled the scene and was gone by the time deputies arrived. The officer did not see any marks on the victim.
• A deputy responded to a 6 a.m. fight between a 60-year-old and a 49-year-old. Both people involved are males and Moncks Corner residents. The 60-year-old confronted his younger neighbor about making too much noise at 4 a.m. The two men exchanged words and the older man left to go to the hospital because he believed he was having a heart attack.
When he returned from the hospital at about 6 a.m. the younger neighbor was still at the residence next door and intoxicated. The older man said he attempted to speak with the drunk man, who then grabbed him by the hair. That’s when the older man threw the younger one to the ground.
The younger man said he only grabbed the other man’s hair because he’d been hit first.
