Congratulations in order for teachers
The Berkeley County School District recently congratulated local teachers who were selected by their school colleagues to serve as their schoolís 2012 Teacher of the Year.
The honorees will now compete for the school district Teacher of the Year title.†
Congratulations to the following incredible educators in the community, who set the bar high for quality education in our class rooms: Alyssa Pelzer at St. Stephen Elementary, Shilia Patton at J.K. Gourdin Elementary, Rilyn Joyner at St. Stephen Middle School, and Maja Fickett at Timberland.
The first annual Omar Shriners Hillbilly Catfish Tournament will take place on Saturday, March 31 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Fisherman will meet at the Canal Lake's Fish Camp, 139 Canal Landing Road.
Entry fees are $100 per team; the Big Fish fee is $20 per person; Kids Big Fish fee is $5; and Ladyís Big Fish fee is $10. All of the entry fees have over 80 percent payback, as there will be awards and prizes following the weigh-in.†
The registration desk will be open at 5:30 a.m. at the restaurant and tackle shop. The blast off will be 7 a.m. and weigh-in will be 3 p.m. (a five fish per boat limit is in effect).
Everyone is welcome to participate in the fun event, which will benefit Shrinerís Hospital for Crippled Children. All donations are tax deductible.†† If more information is needed, contact Paul (Boogie) Freeman at 834-8394.
Looking for Old Friend
Recently one of the locals in the community asked me if I remembered a Mike Smith.† This person has lost contact and would like to find him.†
I didnít remember Mike, but thought maybe someone else out in the community might and maybe could help find this old friend. I have asked around town and a few locals remembered Mike, but didnít know where he relocated to, or where he lives.†
I did find out that Mike had a younger brother named Alex, a sister named Vicky, and that his dadís name could have been Alex Sr.†
The Smith Family lived in the St. Stephen town limits. Mike would have graduated high school in or around 1971.
If anyone has information about Mike Smith, please let me know. My contact information is at the end of column.
Happy Birthday to Velma Booth, Katie Brown, Clayton Crawford, Reba Edens, Gracelyn Floyd, Sarah Floyd, Barbara Schipmann, Mark Shuler, Albert Thames, Jim Tuten, Jeffrey Wadford, Vi Weiss and Megan Wright.
