Boy Scout Troop 747 along with volunteers collected over 400 pounds of litter.

General Marion Memorial Service set for Feb. 27

The annual General Francis Marion Memorial Day will be on Monday, Feb. 27.  Gen. Marion is historically known as the Swamp Fox.  
There will be a memorial service at his tomb in Pineville beginning at 11 a.m.
Guest speakers will be Judge Francis Marion Kirk and Mr. John Wiggins.  The Washington Light Infantry will act as color guard.  At least three Daughters of the American Revolution chapters will be represented:  General Marion's Brigade chapter of Moncks Corner, Margaret Gregg Gordon chapter of Kingstree, and Elizabeth Peyre Richardson Manning chapter of Manning.  
Two memorial wreaths will be placed in the cemetery, one for Gen. Marion and one for his wife, Mary Esther. The public is invited to experience this historical event. Admission is free.

Friends of Berkeley Blueways

Congratulations to the members of Boy Scout Troop 747 from Moncks Corner for a great job collecting over 400 pounds of litter to improve our waterways and the environment. Boy Scout Troop 747 adopted Coon Island during the cleanup on Saturday, Jan. 28.  
Appreciation goes out to Troop 747, Ed Deal and all volunteers for a job well done.

SC Historic Church Presentation

The Berkeley North Historical and Cultural Committee will sponsor presentation of historical churches on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 12 noon.  Admission tickets are $12 and will include a lunch.  Tickets are limited. Congratulations to J.K. Gourdin Elementary for being one of eight schools among 25 statewide to win a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant.  The school won $5,000 and plans are to install a gazebo and an outdoor learning lab in the fall.
