Beatty named SCISA Volunteer of the Year

  • Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Last week at the SCISA Athletic Directors meeting, Pinewood Athletic Director Nancy Beatty was presented with the “Charles Smith” Volunteer of The year Award.
Every year SCISA recognizes an outstanding Athletic Director who unselfishly gives of his/her time, talent, and facilities for SCISA and student-athletes.
The award was named for Charles Smith, the long time Athletic Director at Wilson Hall, who served as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Coaches’ Association for over 20 years.  Charles, along with his wife Barbara, gave untold hours for thousands of student-athletes who participated in all-star events.
“Nancy Beatty continues to represent the very best of her field each and every day,” Pinewood Head Master Steve Mandell said. “The role of the athletic director is complex and each day is full with hundreds of details, big and small.  With all of that, Coach Beatty is so acutely focused on what matters most – the people in our school.  The Smith Award reflects an even greater scope of concern and focus – Nancy’s commitment to the broader world of SCISA athletics and the students of South Carolina.  She is a credit to her profession.”
Last year Pinewood hosted the SCISA State Championships for Equestrian and Cheerleading, a clinic for basketball officials and the first round of the basketball playoffs.
“I am very happy to accept this award on behalf of Pinewood Prep,” Beatty said. “The real credit goes to the team that includes coaches, parents, administration and maintenance who worked extremely hard to make each and every one of these events a huge success. Our pursuit of excellence at Pinewood is driven by a number of great people that are willing to make a difference every day.”
