Close to 60 citizens attended a town hall meeting Aug. 13 at the Steel Shed in Jamestown.
The session featured Rep. Joe Jefferson, Sen. Yancey McGill, and Berkeley County Councilman Steve C. Davis. They spoke about the problems with the state budget and about the needs of the community. 
The speakers expressed concern about healthcare availability, unemployment, and recreational needs in the area.
Other featured speakers included SCDOT engineeer Thomas Lewis, BCD Council of Governments’ Jamie Wood, TriCounty Link’s Barbara A Flynn, First Steps representative Adrienne Frazier, Anthony Phyall of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office; Virginia King of the Franklin C. Fetter Family Health Center; and Hercules Brown, Berkeley County Roads. 
A host of topics were covered, and the officials promised to work with the community and with other elected officials. They stressed the need for the community to work together to put together requests/grants and have another town hall meeting in the near future.  
Thanks to everyone who took part, and also to Jannie McConnell and Linder Snider Green for coordinating the meeting.
 
Rezoning dates
 
Most of you are aware that Martin Marietta has requested rezoning of 395 acres of land to Heavy Industrial at the quarry in Jamestown, also known as Georgetown II Quarry.
The scheduled meetings are as follows; please note that meetings are subject to change.
Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m., Berkeley County Council, First Reading (Public input allowed).
Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m., Concerned Citizens meeting at New Mt. Zion AME in Jamestown. Contact Rodind@homesc.com for more information.
