Stags baseball camp lays foundation for future stars

  • Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Dan Brown/Independent - More than 65 area youth baseball players took part in the annual Berkeley Stags baseball camp at the Moncks Corner Youth Fields.

Landy Cox calls the past week an investment, laying the foundation for future Berkeley baseball teams.
If the 2013 edition of the Berkeley Stags baseball team is any indication of the fruits of their labor, this annual summer youth baseball camp is a sound investment indeed.
“You have to instill the pride and the work ethic early,” Cox said. “We have to start teaching them the Berkeley way at a young age.”
The Berkeley Way, as evidence by the slogan on the backs of campers T-shirts, is “Find a Way.”
“You find a way to win,” Cox said. “Any way you can.”
More than 65 baseball players between the age of 7 and 14 attended the weeklong camp.
While the camp included a week of playing baseball, there was also a lot of hard work involved, and who better to teach the future students of Stags baseball than current Berkeley baseball players?
These players opened up with the best start in decades, rattling off 20 straight wins to capture the school’s first region championship in 50 years.
Former Stag great and Clemson star Thomas Brittle closed out the camp with a talk about what it means to “Find a Way.”
