A recent traffic stop near Mudville Road and Highway 27 near Ridgeville resulted in the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Offices’ Drug Enforcement Unit taking two suspects into custody, according to a BCSO statement released last week.
When agents approached the subject’s vehicle, a Chevrolet S-10 truck, they smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from inside.
After removing the driver and passenger from the vehicle a search revealed a rolled marijuana cigarette on the passenger. Agents searched the truck and found approximately 16 gross grams of cocaine base, 3 gross grams of cocaine and 60 gross grams of marijuana, according to BCSO.
The driver Jonathan Shawn Platt, 23, of Gaston, S.C. and the passenger Josh Way McKnight, 25, of Holly Hill were arrested and taken to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.
They were both charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, trafficking cocaine base and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
McKnight’s bond was set at $60,000 and Platt’s at $30,000.
