In the second, Dylan Baker led off with a single to left, stole second and scored when Josh Simpson’s fly ball to center was misplayed for an error. Andrew Lockliear followed with a base hit moving Simpson to third. Simpson scored the second run on Dillon Salisbury’s ground out.
Eric Orton then reached first on a dropped third strike which allowed pinch runner Kyle Morrison to score. Orton advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and following a base on balls to Zach Gonzales, Kyle Garrick singled to drive in both runners.
Berkeley added another run in the home half of the fourth when Simpson was hit by a pitch and scored on Lockliear’s second hit of the night, a long single to right.
This would give the senior Southpaw all the run support he’d need as Lockliear scattered just three hits and K’d nine before tiring in the seventh. Gonzales came on to record the final two outs.
Berkeley tallied just seven hits on the night but made them all count. Lockliear had two hits on the night and an RBI while Garrick’s 2-RBI single capped the big five-run second for the Stags.
BHS was to play Socastee game on May 1 after a couple of postponements.
In other local playoff news, Timberland’s season came to an end following a 1-0 shutout loss to Andrews. Josh Winningham surrendered one run on just two hits but the Wolves fell short. Timberland’s season ends at a 12-9 mark.

Dan Brown/Independent -- Andrew Lockliear scattered three hits and struck out nine in Berkeley’s 6-0 win over Swansea. --

A five-run second inning that saw 10 Stags come to the plate proved to be more than enough as Berkeley advanced in Class AAA state tournament first round play with a 6-0 over Swansea.
