Juanita T. Lance of Hendersonville, NC formerly of Gaston, SC, passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Elizabeth House. She was 78.
A native of Moncks Corner and a resident of Henderson County since 1980, Juanita was a daughter of the late Alfred Lester and Bertie Morris Thomas and was the wife of the late J.D. Lance who passed away in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle Thomas Whaley; and three brothers, Edward Lester “Rounza” Thomas, Levon Thomas and Harry Thomas.
She was a nature lover, gardener and avid reader. She was a longtime member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Juanita was a loving mother who encouraged her children to learn.
Survivors include daughters Carol Lance of Edneyville, NC, Susan Lance Pittman and husband Steve of Gastonia, NC, and Robin Lance of Hendersonville, NC; a son, Duane Lance of Moncks Corner; a sister, Shirley Gowdy and husband Lee of Lexington, SC; three brothers, Ralph Thomas and wife Patsy of North Charleston, Donny Thomas and wife Faye of Huger, and Danny Thomas and wife Sherry of Huger; four grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 27 at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A guest book and sympathy cards are available at www.forestlawnhendersonville.com.
