Members of the state champion Cross Trojans football team take part in the recent Moncks Corner Christmas Parade.

Cross Christmas Parade a hit in 2012

Old and young alike enjoyd the annual Cross Christmas Parade on Dec. 8.
The parade began near the Dollar General and the AME Church, and proceeded to Cross High School.
In Moncks Corner, the champion Cross Trojan football team took part in that town’s parade. Other notable participants included Frosty the Snowman (John DeHay); Johnny and Bonnie Mitchum, riding together on their polished tractor with the many tractors on parade; Ellie Hill who is an outstanding clogger; Laurel with her mom Lyndsey Sanders on a float; Libbie Sweatman playing Christmas music with the hand bell choir of First Baptist; Carmen Veno and her boys on another float with driver Chris Biering; our old friend Steele Blackmon with the Shriners; Paige Andrus with the BHS Beta Club; and four horses and riders from the Cross area.
Ellison and I could not celebrate a Christmas without a parade or even two or three! Our friends Joe and Shirley Veno joined us as we enjoyed the parade on the gorgeous first Sunday afternoon of December.

Come over to Sandridge First Baptist Church on Dec. 15 for lunch between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., for a $7 donation. There will be a bake sale with delicious desserts for sale from good cooks.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to Bill and Carol White Weaver who have been married for 22 years now. Dec. 8 was the exact date.

Descendants of Wiggins and Annabel M. Singletary met on the weekend after Thanksgiving at the old Rudd Place on Hwy. 176.
Shirley and Joe Veno hosted the afternoon with their daughters Carmen and Lyndsey and their families. Miriam S. Suber and her son and family from Beaufort were unable to attend and were missed by all.
Ellison and  Celeste Singletary were present, but their sons Wes and Russ had just returned to Atlanta after being at home for Thanksgiving.
Lyndia and Phil Byrd from St. George arrived with their son Philip and grandson Trey. Diana and Jamie Fiddie attended with their son Joshua who arrived after taking the SAT; they were without their son Jacob who was involved in a hunting safety class.
Cameron and Ellie Hill, children of Gregg, came from Moncks Corner to enjoy fellowship with the family while their father had to report to work that day. Jackie Veno of Andrews with her husband, Oscar and Gertrude Veno, and Jimmie and Shirley Fiddie all joined the group for a grand lunch of barbecue and other delightful dishes.
The adults enjoyed visiting in the fall afternoon sunshine while the younger ones raced around the old fields on four wheelers and had fun with skeet shooting.

Special Gathering

A total of 108 descendants of Mrs. Estee and Mr. "Budd" Rudd gathered for their annual family reunion on the spot where Gertrude Rudd Veno and her siblings grew up.
Mr. Oscar and Gertrude arrived from nearby as did all of her children, Joe and Shirley Veno of Pinopolis, Jan and Dalton Conner of Santee, Jackie and her family of Andrews, and Judy and her family of St. George.
Jan's and Dalton's two sons Haskell and Chris came down from Hendersonville and Asheville. Dorothy and her daughter of Boone, NC and other daughter of Oregon arrived.
Mary came with her grand from Washington state, Miriam arrived from Tennesee, and so did her daughter from North Carolina. Joseph and Pat Rudd and all of their family came from nearby in the Sandridge Community. Lenwood Rudd came from his Game Preserve in Illinois with one of his children from Kentucky.
What a grand way to celebrate Thanksgiving on the farm.

Back Home

Darrell Poston was happy to welcome his daughter back after several years of military service in Italy. She has been reassigned to a South Carolina base.

Ryan and Logan Prince were in Greenville last weekend for the soccer regionals.

Happy Birthday
Kennedy Mills, daughter of Abbey and Randy, was four years old on Dec. 2.  Twins Aden and Zoe had a great birthday on Dec. 2 in Coweta, OK. Their grandfather Richard DeHay grew up on DeHayville Road and graduated from Cross High.
Mrs. Lina West was recently 93 over at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville. Sara Kunkle had a birthday on Dec. 5, and Memminger Cross has a birthday on Dec. 13 when he'll become 96!
And a belated happy 75th birthday to our friend Carol Lyon of Pinopolis who was 75 on Nov. 16.

Sympathy is extended to Libbie Parler and her family due to the death of her mother, and also to the Lanier family whose member Mitch Lanier died last week.
