SC panel convening 4th Sanford impeachment hearing
Published Monday, December 07, 2009 8:03 AM
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina lawmakers could be ready to decide if a measure to impeach Gov. Mark Sanford moves forward.

The subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee is meeting on Monday. If the panel approves a resolution calling for Sanford's ouster, the full committee could debate the measure next week.

The panel is also expected to release additional information received from several state officials. Lawmakers had requested answers about how Sanford communicated with his office during a five-day absence in June.

Sanford shocked the state when he returned, revealing a yearlong affair with a woman in Argentina. He will face several dozen state ethics charges on travel and campaign reimbursements during a hearing expected next year.
