SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A town councilman in South Carolina doesn't want any illegal immigrants working in his city. Or living there either.

You have to prove citizenship status to get a valid SC driver's license. They were real strict when I got mine and it's a good thing. Make the SC driver's license the mandatory form of ID needed for all utility registrations and rental agreements in the county. If you really want to solve the problem fast though, just go to any new housing development in Summerville that's actively under construction and check the IDs of all workers under the guise of a safety / union / tax inspection (pick one). Detain anyone without a valid ID who can't speak English and the job site will be shut down within the hour.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that Summerville Councilman Walter Bailey says the federal government is not doing enough to prevent illegal immigration. Bailey says illegal immigrants are taking jobs from legal residents.
He wants to keep illegal immigrants from getting jobs or homes in Summerville. Bailey got the backing of a councilwoman at a committee meeting Monday.
The idea will be considered at a meeting Wednesday.
Another councilman, Aaron Brown, says the ordinance could create problems regarding enforcement.
Those seeking to rent homes in Summerville would be required to state whether they are American citizens.
