Wolves fall to Dillon 10-7
Tuesday, November 24, 2009

In a hard-fought defensive football battle Friday night in St. Stephen, the Dillon Wildcats kicked a late field goal and held on to edge the Timberland Wolves 10-7 to send the defending AA state champs back to the Lower State finals.
The Wildcats dashed any hopes the Wolves had of a trip to Columbia by holding Timberland’s high-powered offense in check for much of the game and put its outcome on the shoulders of their kicking game.
Last year Dillon dashed Timberland’s drive to the state championship with a double-overtime 28-27 win decided on extra points.
The Wildcats clinched the AA state championship in similar fashion, on an extra point to beat top-ranked Central 7-6.
The Wolves only touchdown came on a Byron Mayes 20-yard run.
Timberland ends its season with a 13-1 record.
