The Waveriders dove into their summer meet schedule placing third overall in a meet in Newberry earlier this month.
Competing against teams from Newberry, Cherokee County, Sumter, Beaufort and Greenwood, they fell just shy of the top spot as a team but had several outstanding individual performances.
In the girls 15-to-18-year-old category, Hope Stevens took top honors in the 100-yard freestyle race and a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
Tabi Dorsey, 13, won the 50-yard backstroke and Emily Gissendanner placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke and also made a regional cut in the 200-yard free style.
In the girls 11-12-year-old division, Ashley Thornal swept the five races winning the 50-yard backstroke, the 50-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
In the 8-and-under division, Jessica Belille placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, the 25-yard fly stroke, the 25-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle.
Amber Hennick took top spot on the podium winning the 100-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard intermediate medly.
Hennick was also named one of the swimmers of the meet.
In the boys 13-14 year old age group Andrew Jurosko finished second in the 200-yard freestyle. Jurosko was also named the other swimmer of the meet as he improved on all four of his race times.
In the boys 9-10 division, Trevor Hennick placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle races. Hennick also notched a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Brandon Hart took second place in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Waveriders looked to improve their standing in a rematch meet on June 20, but results were not available at press time.
"This was not our best meet, said Waverider coach Tom Schmidt, “but we hope to improve the next time we visit Newberry.”
