Wave Riders kickoff winter season

The Berkeley YMCA Wave Riders kicked off their winter season last month with a swim meet against the Hendersonville, N.C. Hammerheads.
“The new swimmers did a good job in their first meet,” said coach Tom Schmidt.
In the 6-and-under, Amber Hennick took first place finishes in the 100-yard intermediate medley, the 100-yard and 50-yard free style races, and 25-yard breaststroke.
In the girls 7-8, Keyanna Williams finished first in the 50-yard free style and placed third in the 25-yard free style. Alexis Crane took third place in the 25-yard fly stroke and 50-yard freestyle.
In the 9-10 age group, Allyson Cady finished first in the 50-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard intermediate medley. Jessica Belille finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and had two second place finishes in the 50-yard fly stroke and 50-yard freestyle.
In the 10-and-over, Ashley Thornal took home four first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Tabi Dorsey took first in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Julie Olson and Tiffany Hennick placed third in the 100-yard fly stroke and 50-yard breaststroke respectively, plus Hennick also placed second in the 100-yard free style.
Emily Gissendanner placed third in the 50-yard freestyle.
For the boys, Wyatt Howard took home a pair of seconds in the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard breast stroke.  Kiser Morrow place second in the 25-yard backstroke and fly stroke, and took top honors in the 200, 100, and 50-yard free style races, and third in the 25-yard freestyle.
Trevor Hennick won four races, the 200, 100, and 50-yard freestyle, and 50-yard backstroke.
Brandon Hart placed third in the 200, 100, and 50-yard freestyle races, plus the 50-yard fly stroke. Andrew Jurosko and Tyler Mills finished second and third in the 200-yard freestyle with Jurosko also winning the 100-yard breaststroke, and placing second in the 100-yard freestyle.
“The Wave Rider relay teams had a great meet,” Schmidt said. “All four relay teams finished in the top two.”
Swimmers of the meet were Keyanna Williams and Lindsey Sinisi.
