A sampling of nefarious doings obtained from Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and Moncks Corner Police Department reports:
• A Summerville woman reported that her boyfriend’s father, who lives in Ladson, stole her car. The Highway Patrol later found the vehicle at a rest area with the subject still in it. When questioned, the man said he decided to borrow the victim’s vehicle, and when he went to return it they had an altercation. The subject left again, and then went to the rest area and fell asleep in the car.
Officers arrested the man and transported him to Hill Finklea Detention Center; a search of the vehicle turned up a crack pipe and a full beer can. The car was recovered and removed from the National Crime Index Computer.
• A deputy on patrol in Moncks Corner saw an SUV traveling about 25 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone on SC 6. The deputy stopped the vehicle; a driver and passenger were inside. The passenger provided identification but the driver said he had none.
The deputy ran the driver’s name and was advised that the driver’s license was suspended. The passenger turned out to be a sex offender who had not registered in Berkeley County.
Both men smelled of alcoholic beverages. Both were arrested and transported to Hill Finklea Detention Center.
• A Cross man reported that someone stole a tractor, backhoe, and several large electric motors from the Martin Marietta Company in Orangeburg. The man stated he was able to track the equipment through the woods and found the items stuck in a mud hole.
Detectives arrived on the scene, processed it, and left.
The man reported that he and several other employees came back later to recover the items and found three black males trying to load the motors into the back of a red pick up truck. As the complainant and his companions approached the subjects, one of them picked up something that appeared to be a handgun and while running away pointed it toward the complainant. One subject, who was inside the truck, was arrested and transported to Hill Finklea; the other two escaped and are currently being sought.
• A hardware store in Moncks Corner reported that a man driving a Geo Metro took a generator from the rear of the store without paying for it. An employee who saw this followed the subject and called the police. He followed the vehicle until a deputy arrived. The license number of the subject’s vehicle came back to a man who lives in Moncks Corner.
The case is under investigation.
